Malam Darfur Peace and Development and the People of Al Fasher: A Growing Experience Over Five Months

Over the past five months, Malam Darfur Peace and Development (MDPD), with the generous support of dedicated partners, has continued its efforts to provide essential food assistance to the people of the city.
During this time, a deep bond has formed between MDPD and the community it serves. The spaces around the two community kitchens have become like a shared home for one large family—where children gather each day for a much-needed meal, women volunteer their time, and men work tirelessly to prepare and serve food to those in need across displacement camps, shelters, and neighborhoods. Meanwhile, many others wait for the weekly food convoy, which provides supplies that can sustain their families for at least two weeks.
This continuous work has strengthened the connection between the MDPD and the people of the city. It has also enabled MDPD to gain a deeper understanding of other urgent needs, including healthcare, education, water, and livelihood opportunities, as well as early recovery programs.
On May 4, 2026, Abu Shouk kitchen provided daily meals to more than 5,000 people, while the mobile kitchen served over 1,500 people in Al-Nakheel neighborhood, in addition to beneficiaries from four nearby areas.
