The MDPD Food Convoy: A Lifeline the People of Al Fasher Wait for Every Week, Reaching Ten Neighborhoods Ahead of Eid Al-Adha

The weekly food convoy organized by Malam Darfur Peace and Development (MDPD) to Al Fasher has become an important humanitarian event that residents eagerly wait for each week. For many families, it represents the only consistent food supply reaching those in need without interruption. Our teams in Tawila and Al Fasher remain committed to sustaining this effort despite the many challenges, recognizing its vital role in saving lives and easing the suffering of vulnerable communities.
The importance of the food convoy lies in MDPD’s commitment to reaching people in areas beyond the coverage of the two community kitchens, including the crowded Abu Shouk Community Kitchen and the mobile kitchen. In addition, the food baskets distributed through the convoy contain essential food supplies sufficient to support a family for at least two weeks.
Due to the large number of targeted areas this time, covering ten neighborhoods across the city, the convoy carrying 1,200 food baskets was distributed over two full days to ensure support reached as many vulnerable families as possible.
On May 21, 2026, 300 families in the Aldaraga Alowla neighborhood received 300 food baskets. On May 22, our team distributed an additional 900 food baskets to 900 families across the neighborhoods of Shoba, Al-Thawra South, Makraka, Bringia, Al-Gabal, Al-Thawra North, Al-Manara, Al-Modarag, and Al-Riyadh.
Our team also observed vulnerable people arriving from Um Shigaira area, located in the southwestern outskirts of Al Fasher, and they too were able to receive food baskets as part of MDPD’s ongoing efforts to reach those most in need.
