Over the past ten days, the two community kitchens operated by Malam Darfur Peace and Development (MDPD) in Al Fasher have witnessed a significant increase in the number of the beneficiaries. This steady growth reflects the rising humanitarian needs across the city and the growing dependence of vulnerable families on food assistance.
During this period, the number of daily beneficiaries increased by approximately 500 to 600 people, reaching more than 5,400 individuals at Abu Shouk Community Kitchen and over 2,200 individuals at the Mobile Kitchen on June 22. As a result, the total number of people receiving daily meals is now approaching 8,000.
The past ten days have also highlighted the strong spirit of cooperation between the local community and the MDPD team. Nearly 40 dedicated volunteers have continued to work tirelessly every day to prepare and serve meals to the growing number of beneficiaries. Whether at Abu Shouk Community Kitchen, located in one of the city’s most densely populated areas, or wherever the Mobile Kitchen is operating, thousands of people arrive each day with the reassurance that they will receive a much-needed meal.
This growing attendance underscores both the scale of humanitarian needs in Al Fasher and the vital role these community kitchens continue to play in helping vulnerable families cope with the ongoing crisis.
