Since beginning its humanitarian response in Al Fasher on December 1, 2025, Malam Darfur Peace and Development (MDPD) has recognized both the scale and importance of the humanitarian mission it has undertaken in the city. This work has added a new area of humanitarian response to MDPD’s ongoing efforts in Tawila, Neyala, several localities in East Jebel Marra and northern South Darfur, as well as among refugee communities in Uganda.
Over the past nine months, MDPD has continued to provide uninterrupted food assistance to people in Al Fasher through two community kitchens. One is based in the Abu Shouk neighborhood, while the other is mobile, moving between different neighborhoods across the city. Together, the two kitchens now provide daily meals to nearly 9,000 people.
This continuous humanitarian work has also created a unique and meaningful connection between the communities we serve and MDPD’s team in Al Fasher. More than 40 women and men volunteer their time to prepare and serve meals to those in need. This close connection with the community has given us a deeper understanding of people’s most urgent needs and the services they require. It has also helped us identify opportunities for longer-term support that can enable people to become more self-reliant, including income-generating and livelihood initiatives.

As we continue our work, we look forward to exploring every possible opportunity to sustain, strengthen, and expand these vital services, while developing initiatives that help people rebuild their lives with dignity and greater self-reliance across all the communities we serve in our areas of operation in Sudan.
