In the final weekly Ramadan iftar, Malam Darfur Peace and Development kitchen hosts more than 2,500 fasting people in IDP camps in Tawila

The weekly Ramadan iftars organized by Malam Darfur Peace and Development kitchen have become a meaningful and uplifting experience for Sudanese IDP and refugee communities. These gatherings provide much-needed meals during the holy month of Ramadan while also bringing people together in a spirit of solidarity and compassion. They offer moments of comfort and community, helping to ease some of the hardships of displacement that continue to shape their lives.
On the last Friday of Ramadan, March 13, 2026 (the 24th day of Ramadan), the MDPD kitchen served iftar to more than 2,500 fasting people in Tawila, bringing together residents from the Argo Camp, Daba Naira Camp, and the village of Daba Naira.
The residents of these camps fled to Tawila after the outbreak of war on April 15, 2023, coming from Al Fasher, rural areas of Al Fasher, Shagra, and other parts of South and Central Darfur.
