Malam Darfur Peace and Development has reached an important milestone in its capacity to respond to urgent food needs in Al Fasher, currently providing daily meals to more than 7,000 people

Since launching its humanitarian response in late November 2025, MDPD has continued to address the growing demand for food assistance in Al Fasher, fully aware of the scale and complexity of the challenge. Its intervention includes the operation of community kitchens within Al Fasher, alongside weekly food convoys that deliver food baskets to 1,200 households.
In recent weeks, the number of daily beneficiaries has increased significantly, with attendance at Abu Shouk kitchen approaching 5,000 people per day. In response, MDPD expanded its operations by launching an additional mobile kitchen, which is now serving more than 2,100 people daily, according to the field team report dated April 20, 2026.
The field team has demonstrated strong operational capacity in managing this rapid increase in demand, further strengthening its ability to meet growing needs. The response has also been marked by meaningful community engagement, with a number of beneficiaries volunteering to support daily food preparation and distribution activities, an important contribution to the efficiency and sustainability of the operation.
This progress has been made possible through the continued support of donors and partners. Their contributions have played a critical role in enabling MDPD to scale its response, helping to save lives and alleviate food insecurity amid one of the world’s most severe and complex humanitarian crises.
