Al-Malam community in the northern regions of South Darfur reflects a reality that deserves attention amid the ongoing conflicts in Sudan and particularly in Darfur. Since 2011, Malam Darfur Peace and Development has been working tirelessly to foster peace and community coexistence through effective initiatives like Women Peace Ambassadors, Peace Committees, and the Mechanism of Peaceful Coexistence between Herders and Farmers, as well as Al-Mayarim Bank. Due to these efforts, a majority of the community residents have been able to return since early 2017. This return, paired with subsequent stability, has turned Al-Malam locality into a refuge for many who sought safety after the recent outbreak of war on April 15, 2023.
On February 9, 2026, MDPD provided 695 food baskets to support these communities in Maqboola, Shawaya, Kolny, Dabanqa, and Al-Fasher.
