Renewable energy, such as solar, wind and bio gas, are a key elements in promoting social development. MDPD implements vital infrastructure projects in the field of water, education, health, agriculture and livestock in areas where there is no electricity. Therefore, MDPD sought to provide this component with comprehensive studies of the possibility of exploiting the energy of the sun, wind and bio gas. MDPD is currently looking for opportunities to expand the use of renewable energy in other areas of Darfur.

To achieve that goal and to provide clean electrical energy to preserve the environment, the MDPD has adopted solar and wind power as a major source and has already implemented it in the water projects in Um Dasho and Keila, where the wells are operating with solar energy.

In 2016, the US Solar Energy Agency funded the largest project with MDPD in the field of solar energy, which is the lighting of vital institutions in the village of Al-Malam, including schools. The project has had a profound impact on the lives of schoolchildren. As a result, primary schools in Al- Malam achieved the entrance exams results in 2018.

Now, MDPD is planning to build solar and wind power fields to provide lighting for rural areas starting with the town of Al-Malam.
